Why you need your own weekly ritual!

When I was living alone a few years ago, I was never really at my apartment. I was always traveling, out with friends, or finding any excuse to be out and about. When you live in a two bedroom apartment and work from home, it’s hard not to feel trapped at times. But then I had this feeling that I wasn’t taking enough time for myself - to slow down, to take care of myself, and refresh for the week. So I made a pact to myself that on Sunday nights I would be home between 4 - 6 p.m. Being home early ensured that I had all my errands done to prep for the week, and get some time back for just me. It was during this time that I created Sunday Ritual.

Sunday Ritual consisted of taking a shower - and oftentimes sitting or laying down in the shower for long periods of time. If you’ve never sat or laid down in your shower, you are missing out! It feels unnatural at first, but bumping up the heat and just sitting there in silence or even listening to music is an experience in itself. Then, once I was done with that shower, I put on a foot mask and a face mask. I would lay in my bed for 20 minutes and usually fall asleep. The masks that I get are ones that slide over your feet like socks and a mask that you unfold and put onto your face - both cost between $2-6 at Target or any place you can find household goods.

And since this first episode of the month was dedicated to habits, this is your chance to start a habit - and a weekly ritual dedicated to yourself. Whether it’s face masks, foot masks, doing your nails, meditating, reading a book, whatever calls to you, make sure that you are taking care of yourself and making sure you reconnect with the one person who will always be there with you - you.
